TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 Router Drops to $170 on Amazon - tp-link wifi 7 router
The TP-Link Archer BE550 router features five Ethernet sockets operating at 2.5 Gbps speed.

Early-October Prime Day promotions are driving down the cost of Wi-Fi 7 hardware, with the TP-Link Archer BE550 now listed at $169.99 on Amazon, reduced from $249.99. This tri-band router distributes traffic among the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz spectra and incorporates the latest Wi-Fi 7 capabilities such as Multi-Link Operation and 320 MHz channel widths. All five Ethernet sockets, including a single WAN jack and four LAN ports, operate at 2.5 Gbps, allowing a computer, a gaming console and a network-attached storage device to each enjoy multi-gigabit throughput at the same moment. A USB 3.0 connection is also provided for external drives, and the unit can be administered through TP-Link’s Tether mobile app or a browser-based interface.

Specs and Setup

The TP-Link Archer BE550 can be configured via a built-in web dashboard as well as the Tether smartphone application, giving users the ability to establish parental-control policies and guest-network access. Each of its five Ethernet ports is rated for 2.5 Gbps, meaning a solitary device such as a NAS or high-performance PC can fully saturate the link. The router is compatible with EasyMesh, permitting later addition of another certified router or extender to broaden the wireless footprint. It is important to note that the BE550 does not function as a mesh system on its own; signal strength and speeds will naturally diminish with distance or when moving between floors, which may make a second EasyMesh unit desirable.

Wi-Fi 7 brings a new generation of wireless networking that utilizes broader 320 MHz channels. When paired with Multi-Link Operation, devices can simultaneously exploit multiple frequency bands, helping to preserve a stable connection. Because the Archer BE550 supports both of these innovations, it is capable, at least in theory, of outperforming earlier Wi-Fi 6 and 6E routers, although real-world results will vary based on the surrounding environment and the client devices in use.

Performance and Limitations

Feedback from owners indicates that the TP-Link Archer BE550 achieves strong peak rates and maintains usable performance throughout a multi-story residence, delivering sufficient capacity for large file transfers, 4K video playback and other bandwidth-intensive activities occurring concurrently in separate rooms. Nevertheless, as a solitary router it lacks the seamless coverage of a true mesh solution; signal degradation is expected as users move farther from the unit or change floors, potentially prompting the addition of another EasyMesh-compatible device. Additionally, the WAN interface caps at 2.5 Gbps, so the router cannot reach the maximum speeds attainable by models such as the eero Max 7. This limitation only becomes relevant for subscribers whose internet service exceeds 2.5 Gbps.
