Samsung unveils AI laundry combo appliance

Samsung is introducing the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, an all-in-one appliance that combines washing and drying in a single machine. This design aims to save space and simplify everyday routines by bringing together intelligent technology, automated detergent dispensing, and connected-home features. By merging two appliances, it reduces the footprint required for laundry rooms, allowing households to free up cabinets or closets that would otherwise hold a separate dryer.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo handles both washing and drying stages within the same unit, eliminating the need for users to transfer clothes from a washing machine to a separate dryer. Users can load their laundry, select a program, and let the appliance complete the wash-and-dry process without manual intervention. The integrated workflow also means that the transition between wash and dry cycles occurs automatically, so users do not have to monitor each step.

Streamlining Laundry Processes

Selected models of the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo feature ventless heat-pump drying, which recirculates heated air rather than requiring an external exhaust vent. This technology offers greater installation flexibility and can consume less energy than conventional electric-resistance drying, depending on the model and operating conditions. Because no external vent is needed, the appliance can be placed in locations without a wall opening, further expanding placement options.

The company’s AI OptiWash & Dry technology takes some of the guesswork out of laundry care by using sensors to assess factors such as load weight, fabric characteristics, and soil levels. Sensors continuously monitor drum conditions throughout the cycle, helping determine appropriate washing and drying settings for different loads. This reduces the need for users to repeatedly adjust programs and settings.

Connected Features and Automation

The appliance also features Samsung’s Flex Auto Dispense System, which automatically releases detergent and fabric softener according to the load and selected settings. The dispenser can hold enough detergent for multiple loads, reducing the frequency of refills. The system can adjust the amount of detergent based on the measured soil level, helping avoid overuse. Additionally, selected models offer Super Speed Wash & Dry, designed to complete a full wash-and-dry load in approximately an hour under specified conditions. The high-speed option shortens the total cycle time, making it suitable for quick-turnaround laundry needs.

Connected features through Wi-Fi and SmartThings integration allow users to receive notifications when a cycle is complete and access remote-control functions through a compatible smartphone. Users can also start or pause cycles remotely via the SmartThings app. Selected models also feature a seven-inch AI Home touchscreen, providing access to programs, settings, and connected features, as well as voice control on compatible models.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo reflects Samsung’s broader push to bring artificial intelligence and automation into everyday household appliances.
