Atlas Digital Systems was registered in 2026, launching DukaOS, LYNX Pay, and Atlas Digital Vault.

Erick Mathew Mkingule founded Atlas Digital Systems after observing the challenges faced by small businesses in Tanzania. Common issues included poor record-keeping, untracked debts, and uncertain daily earnings. Mkingule’s goal was to develop an integrated platform to tackle these problems.

Registered in 2026, the company has launched three main products: DukaOS, a business management platform; LYNX Pay, a payment solution; and Atlas Digital Vault, a secure document storage service. Atlas serves over 52 merchants across Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa, relying primarily on word-of-mouth growth.

Transitioning from Manual to Digital Records

Mkingule’s inspiration came from watching family and friends manage small shops. Sales were typically recorded in notebooks, debts often went untracked, and payments made through mobile money or cash left owners unsure of their daily earnings. The absence of reliable financial records made it difficult to access credit and comply with tax regulations.

Instead of creating another standalone application, Mkingule focused on building an integrated platform. Development started in late 2025, and Atlas was officially registered the following year. The company is based in Dar es Salaam.

Self-Funding and Expansion

Mkingule invested TZS 8 million of his own funds, along with his Head of Directors. The team develops everything internally, avoiding outsourcing costs. Custom software projects for clients in various sectors provide additional revenue, supporting the company as it expands its core products.

Atlas charges for its products from the outset, ensuring they meet real business needs. This strategy has helped the company grow to 52 paying merchants in less than a year, with 30 more awaiting the launch of Atlas Fiscal Receipts.

For small business owners, moving from manual to digital systems can be transformative. For example, a shop owner in Tanzania might now receive a daily profit report on WhatsApp instead of manually tallying notebook entries. This saves time and provides clarity and confidence in their financial situation.

Atlas’s products are designed to work on any device, including basic phones through USSD, catering to areas with limited smartphone or internet access. This inclusivity is a key advantage in markets with varying levels of technology adoption.

The company’s integrated approach sets it apart. A sale recorded in DukaOS is processed through LYNX Pay, and Atlas Fiscal Receipts will soon automate tax compliance. While most competitors focus on one aspect, Atlas covers the entire business process.

Broadening Reach and Future Plans

Beyond payments and business management, Atlas plans to use transaction data to create a Business Health Score. This score will provide a verified financial history for informal businesses, potentially improving their access to credit. The company is committed to data privacy, registered with Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Commission and employing a Data Protection Officer.

International Recognition and Aspirations

Atlas’s growth has earned it a spot to represent Tanzania at Web Summit Lisbon 2026, a significant achievement for the company. This opportunity allows Atlas to connect with investors, financial institutions, and technology partners, setting the stage for its first funding round and expansion across East Africa.

Looking ahead, Mkingule envisions Atlas becoming a leading technology infrastructure provider in Africa, built by Tanzanians for the continent. The company’s five-year goal is to serve 50,000 businesses across East Africa, with the Business Health Score helping thousands access financing for the first time.
